How to run Slide Check
- To check your presentation with Slide Check, go to the UpSlide tab and press the Slide Check button on the left-hand side.
- This will open a pane on the right, displaying the lists of errors Slide Check found in your presentation. At the top of this pane, you can either sort your errors by type of error or by slides (in that case just click on a slide preview to see the errors).
- Click on an error type to see all the corresponding errors in your document and hover your cursor above any error to see a preview of the issue. To fix it, click on the corresponding blue spanner on the right.
Tip
You can also correct all your errors in one click by using the blue spanner at the top right corner of the pane.
List of warnings
You will find below a detailed list of errors that Slide Check can detect.
-
Double space: a warning is raised for every two consecutive spaces in the presentation. Slide Check will not detect three or more consecutive spaces to allow manual spacing.
TipTo add double spaces on purpose, we suggest using tabulations or manually setting the word spacing. - Empty placeholder: texts such as XXX or XYZ are frequently used to mark areas commonly modified or updated in standard slides. To make sure there is no such placeholder left in your presentation, Slide Check displays a warning for any combination of the letters X, Y or Z found in the slides (e.g. xxx, xyz, ZZZ, ...). Placeholders have to be overwritten manually to fix the issue.
- Highlighted text: text highlight is frequently used to mark areas commonly modified or updated in standard slides. To ensure no such mark is left in your presentation, Slide Check shows a warning for any highlighted text found in your slides. Clicking the blue spanner removes the highlight.
- Misaligned shapes: Slide Check detects any slight shape misalignment in your presentation and proposes the best solutions to fix them. Please take a look at our next paragraph for more details.
-
Outdated Library slides or shapes: Slide Check runs through the slides and shapes in your presentation inserted from the Library and compares them with the ones currently saved in the Library.
If some of the slides or shapes from your presentation have been updated by one of your Library administrators since you last inserted them, Slide Check will let you know that they might be outdated. Clicking the blue spanner then updates the content with the most recent content saved in the Library.
In addition, a pop-up appears when you open a presentation if it contains outdated Library content before even running Slide Check.ImportantThe slide must be a single slide. The warning message will not appear if the slide is inserted in a deck.
- Punctuation spacing: Slide Check looks for any spacing issue around punctuation marks (comma, colon, semi-colon, full stop, question mark, exclamation mark), depending on the proofing language set (English or French). Just click the blue spanner to fix the spacing issue.
-
Non-compliant font: to ensure formatting compliance, Slide Check checks the font used in your slides and lets you know if the font is not present in the Font Theme or in the Slide Master.
In that case, choose the right font in the drop-down menu on the right or the error, in place of the blue spanner. -
Style deviates from layout: a warning appears every time the font formatting (text size and font) in the placeholders differs from what has been set in the slide layout.
ImportantBe sure that all the placeholders from your presentation are the ones coming from the layout. If you create a new shape using the "Insert" tab of PPT, it will not be able to trigger this warning as the shape will not come from the layout of the UpSlide template.
About misaligned shapes
Slide Check detects all the shapes that are not exactly aligned (top, left, right and bottom alignments) in your presentation and suggests the most relevant solution for each case. For a particular error, click the arrow on the left to display all the solutions possible. Hover over a solution to get a preview.
Slide Check only looks for slight misalignments in specific conditions to avoid having too many irrelevant warnings. Thus footers, placeholders, center aligned shapes are ignored by the shapes misalignment check. Shapes which are misaligned by more than 10 pt are also ignored.
Tip
Consider this type of warning as a small help to detect any final misalignment you might have missed after arranging in your slides. To arrange shapes quickly and precisely, use our arrange feature.
