UpSlide features are compatible with native Office shortcuts Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Y, and F4, but the level of support varies by application and feature. This article details which shortcuts work with UpSlide in PowerPoint, Excel, and Word, and explains how to undo table formatting in Excel.
Context
Ctrl+Z is a native Office shortcut that undoes your previous actions. F4 redoes the latest action performed. Ctrl+Y either repeats your latest action or redoes actions you've just undone.
PowerPoint, Excel, and Word each handle undoing and repeating actions differently, which means that undoing and redoing have to be handled differently by UpSlide in each application. As of right now, Ctrl+Y is not compatible with UpSlide functionalities.
UpSlide compatibility with Ctrl+Z and F4
In PowerPoint
✅ Ctrl+Z is compatible with all UpSlide functionalities in PowerPoint.
❌ F4 is not compatible with UpSlide functionalities in PowerPoint.
In Excel
When using macros in Excel, the application clears the undo and redo stacks. This means you will be unable to undo or redo any actions you performed before running the macros. Because of this behaviour, using UpSlide in Excel also clears the undo and redo stacks. To allow more flexibility, we've coded certain functionalities so they may be undone.
✅ Ctrl+Z works after using Operations features.
⚠️ Ctrl+Z is compatible with all of UpSlide’s Format and Format Tables when used on cells. If you use the same features on a chart, Ctrl+Z won't be available.
❌ Ctrl+Z doesn't work if Autocolor on Edit is active because every cell modification will trigger the functionality.
❌ Ctrl + Z is not compatible with any other UpSlide features.
⚠️ F4 is compatible with all of UpSlide’s Format and Format Tables when used on cells. It is not compatible with Operations features or any other UpSlide features.
In Word
✅ Ctrl+Z is compatible with all UpSlide functionalities in Word.
❌ F4 is not compatible with UpSlide functionalities in Word.
Undo formatting in Excel table with UpSlide
UpSlide offers several ways to reverse formatting actions applied to tables.
- Cycle through formats. The Titles, Items, and Results buttons all work on the same principle: successive clicks cycle through all available formats before re-applying the initial format. To undo unwanted formatting, click the button responsible for it again until the original format is restored.
- Remove all formatting. In the Line Styles drop-down menu, click Clear Formats at the bottom of the styles list to remove all formatting from the selection.
