UpSlide MCP connects Claude to your UpSlide environment. Use UpSlide with Claude to create and update PowerPoint content, insert items from your UpSlide Library, manage logos, and work with Excel links. No special commands needed.
Before you start
Make sure you mee the following prerequisites:
- You have downloaded the UpSlide Skills for Claude.
- You are signed in to Claude.
- UpSlide is installed and active in PowerPoint and Excel. If the add-in is not active, you won’t be able to use the UpSlide skills.
UpSlide MCP currently supports Claude in PowerPoint and Excel only. Other AI assistants are not supported.
Connect UpSlide and Claude
To ensure Claude can call the UpSlide skills, you have to get the UpSlide Connector for Claude.
- Open Claude and go to Customize.
- Go to the Connectors tab and look for UpSlide.
- Click the plus sign to connect.
Use Claude with UpSlide
After you connect UpSlide, describe what you want Claude to do in your request. Claude uses the UpSlide MCP connection automatically, so you do not need to enter special commands.
PowerPoint
Structure your deck
Use the UpSlide skill to generate or update the Table of Contents based on the current section structure. Examples:
- “Add a section called ‘Financials’ at position 3”
- “Add a subsection ‘Revenue Analysis’ under the Financials section”
- “Insert the agenda slide at the beginning of the presentation”
Generate slides
Ask Claude to create slides using layouts from your UpSlide Library. Examples:
- “Create a slide summarizing the key risks for this deal”
- “Generate a slide with our 4 main competitive advantages as bullet points”
Insert Library content
Insert slides, shapes, and images from your Library. Describe the slide you need, and Claude searches your UpSlide slide library for the best match and inserts it. It also flags it when no match can be found. Examples:
- “Add a slide about our Company overview”
- “Find a case study for an international actor in the healthcare industry”
- “Add a map of France to this slide”
Insert logos
Give Claude a list of company names to access UpSlide’s Logo Finder and insert a formatted logo grid on the active slide. It flags any logo not found. Examples:
- “Add the logos of Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan”
- “Insert logos for Meta, Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft”
- “Add logos for all the banks in this deal: BNP, SocGen, HSBC”
Excel
Create links
Specify the source file, sheet, and range to create new Excel links . Examples:
- “Link this table to my current slide”
- “Link the P&L to slide 3, the Balance Sheet to slide 5”
Update links
Refresh all Excel data links in the active presentation by pulling the latest values from connected workbooks without opening them manually.
- “Refresh the links on this slide”
- “Update all outdated links from XYZ-Databook.xlsx”
Read links information
Review the information behind your Excel links to help with your reviews. Examples:
- “Give me information about the link on slide 4”
- “List every broken or outdated link in this deck”
Go to source
Navigates to the source Excel cell behind a linked shape, which can be useful for tracing data provenance or auditing linked values across a presentation. Example:
- “Open the Excel source behind this chart”
Troubleshooting
Claude doesn’t recognize an UpSlide command
Go to Claude > Customize > Connectors. UpSlide should be listed and not marked as Blocked.
Authentication failed
Go to Claude > Customize > Connectors. If UpSlide shows a warning icon, click Connect and sign in again.
“No active session” error
Make sure the UpSlide add-in is open in PowerPoint or Excel before starting your conversation. Click on Connect to MCP in the UpSlide ribbon if it doesn’t work.
Claude does not recognize the UpSlide tools
Ask Claude to refresh the tools or open a new chat
