How to rename sections in PowerPoint

Updated May 22nd, 2026

When renaming a section in PowerPoint using UpSlide, the change is automatically reflected across the section divider slides, the table of contents, and any cross-references. This article explains how to rename a section in a few clicks.

Renaming the section on the divider

  1. Go to your section’s divider.
  2. Select the title placeholder and update the title.
  3. Use the Refresh button in the References section of the UpSlide ribbon. Once the refresh is complete, the new title is displayed in your table of contents.
Tip

If you don’t have a divider slide for your section or subsection, go to the References section of the UpSlide ribbon and click Options to enable them.

Renaming the section in the Outline pane

  1. Go to the References section of the UpSlide ribbon and click Outline. The Outline pane will open on the right displaying the structure of your presentation.
  2. Right-click the section or subsection you’d like to update, then click Rename to change the title.
  3. Renaming your title through the Outline pane will automatically update the divider. Use the Refresh button in the References section of the UpSlide ribbon to update all other references to the title.
